In just one week 1,000 dental hygienists, exhibitors, and conference support staff will descend upon the nation's capital. Past attendees know the ropes. We are looking forward to improving their clinical skills, learning about the latest techniques and equipment, and enlarging their professional network. First-timers are sure to be amazed by the positive energy of an event totally focused on our professional needs.

Here are some last-minute tips to make UOR the highlight of your professional year:

- Print several copies of your travel itinerary and photo ID and stash them in different places.

- Wear comfortable clothing for travel and bring something to amuse yourself in the case of a delay book/magazine/iPod/DVD player.

- Take any essentials in your carry-on bag like medicine, a hairbrush, or a set of clean underwear in case your luggage gets delayed or lost.

- Stash a small non-liquid snack in your carry-on and buy a bottle of water at the airport. Cheese, crackers or nuts are ideal choices.

- All liquids in carry-on bags must be in containers less than 3 oz. and fit into one-quart clear zip lock bag.

- Bring comfortable clothes and shoes for the conference. Don't forget a sweater if you get cold easily.

- Print out the meeting planner from the web site and plan your strategy so you don't miss a thing.

- Plan on visiting the exhibits and taking part in the receptions and social activities. You don't want to miss a moment of UOR.

- There is still time to sign up for the cruise and some workshops. Check the availability online.

Come with a great attitude and be prepared to have fun! See you next week!
