The eight lucky hygienists selected every year to receive the Sunstar/RDH magazine G.U.M. Healthy Gums, Healthy Life Award of Distinction are more than lucky. They are hard-working, dedicated professionals who take their clinical roles very seriously, always looking for new, diverse ways to help patients achieve optimal oral health.
The application for this award compels potential recipients to closely examine how they relate to patients on an individual basis and describe their contributions to their community as a whole.
This year's recipients just spent four unforgettable days being treated like royalty at the 2007 UOR. After luxurious spa treatments that included massages, hair and makeup, the eight hygienists convened for a special photo shoot for the cover of the September 2007 issue of RDH.
Past and present award recipients were invited to spend an unforgettable night in Baltimore at our nation's National Museum of Dentistry, an affiliate of the Smithsonian. Spouses and lucky friends joined in on a wonderful trip to this unique location where everyone enjoyed a scrumptious buffet dinner and the chance to take a leisurely tour of the exhibits.
This special place include exhibits on saliva called, "Your Spitting Image," several of George Washington's dentures, Dr. G.V. Blacks dental office, and tooth-cleaning devices that range from an organic miswack to today's most sophisticated power brush.
Hats off to Butler for once again recognizing talented members of our profession. It's never too late to begin working on the application for the 2008 Award!
